My Frenectomy Experience
During a routine check up, Dr. Duffner discovered I had an extremely limited range of tongue movement. He explained to me the negative effects that “tongue tie” has on oral hygiene and the effects it may pose on my upcoming orthodontic work. He recommended I get a frenectomy.
The procedure, performed in his office, was surprisingly quick and relatively painless. He stressed the importance of performing the post-op exercises, which I did religiously to prevent the tongue from regressing back to its old state.
I never realized how bad my condition was and just how limited my tongue movement was until after the procedure. I can now move my tongue completely around all my gums, teeth, and all the way back along the roof of my mouth. Food that becomes stuck in my mouth is now easily removed with my tongue, now that I have a full range of movement.
I wish I had known about this earlier in my life, since having full tongue movement would have definitely contributed to better oral hygiene.
