Restore your complete smile with a partial denture
With proactive dentistry services at Park Avenue Dental Care, the loss of a single tooth — let alone several teeth – does not have to be in your future. But our friends and neighbors from the Homewood, Illinois area have peace of mind that, should a tooth (or teeth) be lost, we can restore their natural, functional, and “complete” smile!
What if I have problems with a lot of teeth?
Our dentists, Drs James Kreuz, Gregory Duffner, and Alex Dolinar, may still be able to save them! Should root canal therapy not be appropriate or fail to heal your infected or damaged tooth fully, options may range from dental bridges to removable partial and full or complete dentures.
What is the difference between a bridge and a partial?
Bridges are sometimes referred to as “fixed partial dentures.” They are secured in the mouth and cannot be removed. One tooth or a few prosthetic teeth are anchored in place by neighboring crowned “abutment” teeth. “Partials” are appliances that can slip in and out of your mouth. They are designed to replicate both the teeth and gum tissue. Partials attach to neighboring teeth as well. But, unlike bridges, they are not permanently fixed or anchored in place. Special connectors or attachments connect to the remaining teeth to stabilize the denture.
How many teeth can be replaced with a partial?
There is no set maximum number of teeth that may be replaced with a partial denture. Generally, partials can be designed to replace one tooth or many teeth. It is essential for our dentists to assess the condition of any remaining teeth, as there must be something for the denture appliance to attach to in the mouth for support. If you have more extensive needs for treatment, full or complete upper or lower denture(s) may be on the horizon. These dentures conform to the contours of your mouth. So, it is absolutely essential for them to fit well.
What can I expect from my new denture?
All appliances can take some getting used to, but we are here to help! Park Avenue Dental Care will advise on ways to make the transition to your new teeth seamless. We will review proper maintenance and hygiene practices with you and provide tips to help you eat and speak clearly with your new teeth. Of course, it is also essential to maintain the usual 6-month checkups at our office in Homewood, Illinois. During these appointments, Drs. Kreuz, Duffner, and Dolinar assess the health and condition of dental restorations, dentures, other appliances, and natural tissues. Any necessary repairs or adjustments will be carried out as needed.
